Carl and the Blog

This blog began in the summer of 2008 when I spent two months backpacking across Europe with a Eurail pass. I had been inspired to take the trip from stories I heard from my parents' European backpacking trips and time abroad. Both the trip and blogging proved to be amazing experiences! Thus the traveling and blogging have continued....

After completing my undergrad at Wartburg College in political science and economics I moved to Johns Hopkins SAIS (School of Advanced International Study) where I studied international relations for the 2009-2010 academic year in Bologna, Italy. This gave me many more great opportunities to travel and blog while exploring Europe, and particularly Italy, more extensively, while also giving me the chance to simply live abroad and experience life in Italy!

Following my time in Italy I went to Fez, Morocco where I spent the summer of 2010 studying the Arabic language. There I took four hours of daily Arabic language courses while also living with an amazing Arabic family! Needless to say I often traveled around Morocco and blogged about it all in my spare time.

For the 2010-2011 academic year I was a visiting graduate student in Political Science at Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus where I studied political theory, international relations, development, and a number of other subjects. Now I am living in DC and have recently completed my MA in International Relations and Economics at SAIS.
